In February 2017, I was interviewed by Naeeda Aurangzeb for the VPRO program ‘Bureau Buitenland‘ of NPO Radio 1. I was truly honored to receive an invitation to come to the Mediapark in Hilversum. It was great to have the opportunity to be interviewed for more than 10 minutes about the research I am currently working on.

In December 2016, I received an e-mail of Syerramia Willoughby, the Editor of the ‘Africa at LSE blog‘ which is based at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She invited me to review the book Making the Mark. Gender, Identity and Genital Cutting by Miroslava Prazak.

In December 2016, I was in Burkina Faso for a research assignment. The assignment included an analysis of legal frameworks on FGM/C in 12 countries (including Burkina Faso, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, the Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone). Burkina Faso was selected as a case study, because this country has a unique track record in relation to the enforcement of the law criminalizing FGM/C.

In November 2016, our article entitled ‘Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting as a Ground for Asylum in Europe’ was published in in Volume 28, No. 3 of the International Journal of Refugee Law (IJRL). Although I am currently working as an individual consultant, I still find it important to publish in academic journals.

The 8th of November 2016, the End FGM European Network organized a conference at the Hotel NH Collection Grand Sablon in Brussels entitled Gender-related Vulnerabilities in the EU asylum procedures: Spotlight on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
