Article in Medisch Contact

Together with Dr. Refaat Karim (plastic surgeon) and Judith Dekker (gynecologist) I wrote an article that was published in a Dutch Medical Magazine about clitoral reconstructive surgery after Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting. We claim that this surgery should be covered by basic health insurance in the Netherlands.

The 10th of October 2019, an article that I wrote together with Dr. Refaat Karim (plastic surgeon) and Judith Dekker (gynecologist) was published in Medisch Contact (in Dutch).

Medisch Contact is a weekly publication/magazine of the Royal Dutch Society for the Promotion of Medicine (KNMG). It offers a platform on which doctors can exchange ideas with each other and with other professionals in- or outside healthcare. Medisch Contact shows doctors what colleagues from other specialisms think and do and explains to non-doctors what doctors are doing. All doctors and medical students who are members of the KNMG receive Medisch Contact, which means that it is a well-read magazine. Medical Contact is also often followed by policymakers, politicians, decision makers and other healthcare workers such as the government, insurers, hospital management and universities.

In our article, we claim that clitoral reconstruction after Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) should be covered by health insurance in the Netherlands. You can read the full article here.
