Launch of GR No. 35 of the CEDAW Committee in Geneva

In November 2017, I was in Geneva for the launch of General Recommendation No. 35 of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee).

From the 14th until the 17th of November 2017, I was in Geneva for the launch of General Recommendation No. 35 of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee). In July 2017, the CEDAW Committee adopted GR No. 35 on gender-based violence against women, updating General Recommendation No. 19, which can be accessed here. With a view to disseminating the content of GR. No. 35 and discussing how it can be promoted as a tool for accelerated implementation of regional and international obligations to eliminate gender-based violence against women, the CEDAW Committee held a high-level panel discussion on the 14th of November during its 68th session in Palais des Nations in Geneva. The specific objectives of the event were to highlight the most important and innovative elements of the General Recommendation and identify the main “shifts” that are required in States Parties’ efforts to address gender-based violence against women.More coming soon...
